Royal Door has numerous variations of French doors ranging from clear, bevel, and frosted glass, as well as doors with brass, lead or zinc inserts that are available in clear, bevel, or frosted glass.

Company History
In the early 1970's, Florio Cescolini, a skilled European woodworker, discovered that there was a need in the market for the production of better quality exterior doors. Mr. Cescolini began Royal Door Ltd. in 1975, when, in his artisan workshop, he meticulously designed a whole new line of exterior wood doors to suit a variety of styles and tastes using true mortise and tenon construction. Royal Door also became the first company to offer full thickness panels on exterior doors to deal with the harsh climate found in Ontario. His innovations has set the standard for today's wood door industry.

Due to this innovation, Royal door quickly moved from a small workshop to a large manufacturing plant in Concord. Along with that growth, came the production of high end exterior and interior doors. Royal Door's products have been originally designed, and still are, by the master himself, unlike his competitors who are just imitators. Thus, if you want the best, then consider purchasing a quality product from a leading company like Royal Door.

Royal Door Ltd. is a proud member of The Building Industry and Land Development Association [BILD].

The membership includes: home builders; land developers; renovators; land use and environmental planners; sub-contractors; manufacturers; lawyers; surveyors; architects; suppliers; and representatives of service, professional and financial institutions. The goal is to improve the communication between the industry and government, provide enhanced opportunities for our members, promote the welfare of the industry, and protect the interests of consumers.

The association encourages innovations and excellence in the planning and building of sustainable communities and in the redevelopment and renovation of existing communities. BILD works to encourage government at all levels to establish fair and effective policies that impact the building and development industry and its customers and facilitates discussions between the industry and the federal, provincial, regional and local governments with respect to issues that affect development, building, and home ownership in the Greater GTA.

The Royal Door Ltd. Product Warranty

Royal Door warranties its doors for one (1) year from the shipping date on the invoice. Wood products such as doors are susceptible to expansion, contraction and/or warping which are caused by extreme variations in humidity and temperatures. Warping can also result from different temperature conditions from either side of the doors, such as air conditioning. This warranty applies only if the following care and handling instructions have been followed correctly:

Download a PDF file of the warranty:

Product Warranty

  1. Doors should be handled with proper care. They should not be dragged across the floor or other surfaces. They should be lifted, eliminating any sliding of one door on the other.

  2. Under no circumstances should the unfinished doors get wet prior to staining or painting because every drop of water will leave a permanent stain on the wood. Failure to adhere to this notice, will result in the warranty being null and void.

  3. Doors must be stored in a dry and well ventilated room, not in a damp or freshly drywalled or plastered environment where they are subject to abnormal and varying temperatures and humidity. Store doors at least four (4) feet from heat sources and flat on a level surface supported in at least three (3) places. To prepare doors for installation, store them at average room temperature for several days.

  4. Doors must be protected with at least one application of a water proof sealer within 24 hours of installation. The sealer must be applied to all six (6) sides of the door (front, top, back, bottom and both sides). A generous protective coat should be applied to the bottom and top of the door which is where humidity is easily absorbed. Doors should be inspected annually and refinishing should be applied as often as is needed in order to protect the integrity of the finish. When finishing a glass door, the panes must be covered with masking tape in order to prevent them from being scratched permanently by sand paper. It is recommended that an oil based primer be used when painting a veneer pine door to prevent the veneer from lifting. In addition, when finishing solid pine doors for exterior use, a tanning blocking primer should be applied prior to painting in order to avoid resin bleeding through the finished door surface. Joints from fingerjoint pine doors can be noticeable once the doors are finished. An oil based paint is recommended to help make joints less noticeable.

  5. Exterior doors must be protected from the elements by an overhang of at least six (6) feet.

  6. In order to maintain the structural strength of a door, a maximum of ¼’’ is permitted for fitting in length and width taken equally from two (2) sides of the door.

  7. If there were to be a problem with any of our doors, all complaints should be reported to an authorized dealer within 24 hours of receiving the merchandise and before any installation work is started on the door. The dealer must contact us immediately. Transportation and labour to replace and refinish defective doors are at the customer’s expense.

Warranty Exclusions

  1. On any unfinished interior and exterior doors that have become wet after leaving our manufacturing facility.

  2. On any exterior doors that have been painted or stained with dark colours such as black or dark brown.

  3. On any interior doors that have been installed for exterior use.

  4. On any exterior doors that are out-swinging.

  5. Damages caused by failure to comply with the care and handling instructions.

  6. Product abuse.

  7. Doors that are improperly installed.

  8. Non-alignment or bow in the frame or jamb in which the door is hung.

  9. Damages caused by persons, other than the manufacturer, attempting to make repairs to the door.

  10. Doors whose basic structure has been changed.

  11. Doors that have a warp or twist that does not exceed ¼”.
This does not include doors that exceed 36” x 84”.

Nature Creates…But Never DuplicateS:

So two pieces of wood, even from the same tree, are never exactly alike. Due to the differences in natural colour and grain, each piece of wood will react differently to the finishing materials used. This means that you may notice a slight difference in colour between several pieces. In addition, sound knots, slight surface cracks, and other imperfections are not seen as defects.

Door Finishing Instructions (Interior and Exterior)

  1. Do not remove plastic on any glass door with wood moulding.

  2. For the following doors adhesive tape must be applied since there is no plastic on the glass. These doors include; one lite tempered glass, brass, leaded, or zinc lites, and thermo glass for exterior doors.

  3. Using the # 320 grit sandpaper, lightly sand the entire surface of the door in order to remove any oils, dirt or marks. Sanding must be done in the direction of wood grain to avoid scratching the wood on the door.

  4. The following procedures are recommending for finishing:
    b) To Paint: Apply first coat of oil primer
    c) To Varnish: Use oil base
    d) To Stain: Use oil or solvent base
    e) AVOID SPRAY BOOTHS: Do not finish glass doors by running them through a spray booth, otherwise the glass surface will become damaged.

  5. Apply paint, varnish, or stain in the wood grain direction. Finish all six sides of the door including under the hinges.

  6. All instructions recommended from the painting, staining or varnishing manufacturer must be followed.

  7. Exterior doors should be touched up with a finishing product once a year.

  8. After painting, varnishing, or staining door, use a sharp utility knife to cut along perimeter of glass. To remove plastic, place a straight smooth edge against glass, peel-off one corner and pull plastic towards you.

  9. Repeat step 8 on all other panes of glass and on the opposite side of the glass if applicable.
Removing Plastic Protection From Glass Doors

Items Required:
Exacto Knife or Razor Blade

Plastic protection is applied to most of our glass doors in order to reduce the risks of stains that can dirty the glass. Please remove the plastic protection once your door has been completely finished.

  1. Trace the perimeter of the glass as close to the wood moulding as possible using an Exacto knife or a razor blade. Turn the utensil at a 45-degree angle. Its tip should be turned toward the junction of the glass panel and moulding.

Do not use the utensil to make any mark in the center of the glass in order to remove the plastic. Direct contact of the knife or blade on the glass could result in scratching it. For patterned glass the plastic protection would best be removed using a razor blade due to the unevenness of the surface.

  2. Using an unsharpened object made of plastic or some other material that will not scratch the glass, lift one of the corners of the plastic protection. Do not use the Exacto knife or razor blade because they will scratch the glass.

  3. Remove the plastic protection.

  4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 for the other side of the door.
Cleaning Of Acid-Etched & Sandblasted Glass

Items Required:
Glass Cleaner • Clean Rag or Paper Towel • Lacquer thinner • Magic Eraser

There are two types of stains that may appear on Acid-Etched and Sandblasted glass which require special cleaning instructions due to their unique manufacturing process. Clear stains may appear once the plastic protection is removed from the glass. Finishing stains may appear if the plastic protection around the glass is perforated which can result from the application of a primer or any other finishing product such as paint, varnish or stain. These stains can be cleaned using the instructions below:

  1. Apply a small amount of lacquer thinner on a clean white rag or paper towel and proceed by lightly scrubbing the stained areas. Do not make any contact with the wood.

  2. Allow the glass to dry in order to ensure that the stains have completely disappeared. If the stains have disappeared then complete the cleaning with a glass cleaner.

  3. If stains have not been removed by the process above then use a Magic Eraser. Lightly wet the Magic Eraser and scrub the glass where the stains are persistent. Do not make any contact with the wood. Once the stains have been removed complete the cleaning using a glass cleaner.

  4. Steps 1 to 3 may need to be repeated until the stains completely disappear.
